Google Pixel 7 users had earlier complained of problems with the devices and the material being defective. Several users have now newer complaints on a functional level. The video call quality on Pixel 7 phones is reportedly very poor. During video calls across multiple apps, including Google Meet, the video quality is said to be relatively below par compared to that of other smartphones in the same range. Even the videos received from Pixel 7 are allegedly noticeably blurrier and appear smudged.

A Reddit user, as reported by the Android Police, claimed that the video call quality on their Pixel 7 is weaker as compared to that of much older devices. They say that the quality is lower on various apps, including Google Meet. The Pixel 7 owner originally thought the issue was with the Google Meet app. To test, the user installed Google Meet on a Pixel 3 XL and a 2018 iPad Pro. Both systems’ video calls were much sharper and clearer than the Pixel 7, as per the post.

Dozens of other Android users commented on the post, where a Pixel 7 Pro owner stated that video calls on Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram, and Google’s own app were also blurry. According to the same user, the quality problem was present on both the front and back cameras, so there was no way to avoid it while making a video call on the Pixel 7 Pro.

According to one user, none of the apps utilised the correct camera API, resulting in the reduced quality. Given the exceptional quality of the photos and videos captured by the Pixel 7’s camera outside of video calls, the software is the most obvious suspect behind this issue.

Several Twitter users also had similar complaints. One user tweeted asking, “My front camera is really blurry when in a video call on Google Meet with my Pixel 7 Pro. Is there any way to fix this?” Another user asked for a replacement for her Pixel 7 device. These complaints go back as far as December 2022.

In December last year, many Pixel 7 users complained about the rear camera glass shattering without reason. Several Reddit and Twitter users reported that the cameras on their Google Pixel 7 devices were breaking or shattering without any drops. According to a few users, at the time it seemed like a material defect in the phone. An affected user was reportedly offered a replacement product by Google.
